JANUARY 5, 2010

Construction of the 6-storey 265,000 square foot Taylor Family Digital Library (TFDL) remains on-schedule and on-budget, with the construction completion on target for fall 2010.

The panelized pre-glazed curtainwall system by Flynn was erected quickly and completed ahead of schedule. The building is now substantially sealed against the elements and ready for winter. Interiors work is fully underway with the installation of the Camino 2-foot raised access

Human Remains found at High Density Library site.

As reported in the Calgary Herald, construction at the High-Density Library (HDL) site has been halted while an archaeologist studies human remains that were uncovered by workers earlier this week.  We'll post updates as more information comes in.

June 18 marked the official topping off of the 6-storey 265,000 square foot Taylor Family Digital Library at the University of Calgary. Don and Ruth Taylor, who have contributed significant funding to the project, along with several U of C executives were tasked with pouring the last concrete for the mechanical equipment pads in the rooftop penthouse. This major project milestone was achieved on-schedule and on-budget.

Construction of the Taylor Family Digital Library on the U of C campus briefly stopped on Thursday, June 18 for a topping-off celebration now that the structure has reached its highest level.  Read the full press release on the University News page.

Construction
The major structural concrete work on the 6-storey 265,000 square foot library was completed in April 2009. A full-time crew of over 120 skilled men and women have placed over 10,000 m3 of concrete and 1.3 million kgs of reinforcing steel, giving the TFDL's concrete structure a total mass of well over 26 thousand metric tonnes of concrete and steel.

The timelapse video for May, 2009 has been added.  Watch for 1) the burst steam pipe at the beginning of the month, 2)  the artfully-captured chinook arch, and 3) the start of the cladding - yay!
